How To Make Money Through Blogging
I have written about the importance of creating a second source of income in one of my earlier articles and why blogging should be your top choice. In this article, I want to talk about how to make money through blogging and the different types of monetization platforms that you can use.
In the earlier article (link here), I spoke about the 6 criteria that must satisfy me before I consider it a viable source of a second income stream.
To recap, the six criteria are:
- It does not require a high initial investment
- It allows you to do everything online
- It allows you to do things at your pace
- It is easy to learn
- It requires less of your attention when it becomes more stable and consistent
- It allows you to dispose of it at least 20 times the monthly returns that you are getting from that income stream
Now we know that blogging meets all the above criteria, let’s explore further on how your blog can make you some serious coins. Basically, blogging involves writing about topics in your chosen niche so that readers can get accurate and relevant information when they are searching for it. However, there are a few types of blogs on the internet today, but I want to talk about 2 of them in this article.
- General blogging
- Authority blogging
You see, many blogs on the internet today talks about everything under the sun. They cover a wide variety of topics ranging from health to relationships, from pet care to women’s styling. And as such, they are often not viewed as an authority in any niche and people read their contents largely for entertainment purposes. These are what I classify as general blogs. Examples are https://www.thespruce.com/ and https://www.almanac.com/. These blogs cover everything from astrology to health and gardening.
On the other hand, the second type of blogs are authority blogs. These blogs are different from general blogs because they focus on a single niche or sub-niche. Some people refer to them as niche blogs, but I prefer to call them authority blogs. These blogs write almost exclusively on topics related to their niche in details and they rarely stray out of their core niche. For example, https://www.davidaustinroses.com/us/, talks and sells exclusively everything about roses. Although they may be an e-commerce store, they contain helpful articles and information in relation to roses only and nothing else. Not orchids, not sunflower, not chrysanthemum. This type of authority blog commands respect and authority from their readers because all they talk about is their niche and in this case, roses. Their readers also tend to trust whatever products this blog recommends because since they enjoy and trust the information so much, they might as well trust whatever the blog recommends.
Authority blogging is what you need to be looking in if you want to start making money from blogging as your second income stream. Although you can start a general blog, I will advise you against it because you will spend considerable time, energy, resources, and money to get it off the ground and maintaining it. Furthermore, without deep pockets, it is impossible to compete against those already established general blogs that have a large pool of resources behind them that will crush any little hope that you might have.
On the other hand, small authority blogs are easier to get off the ground, require fewer resources in terms of time, energy and money and still able to make a sizable income. Another advantage is that the process is repeatable, and you can build one blog after another in different niches.
Ok, now let’s look at the various platforms that you can monetize your blog with.
- Google AdSense or similar PPC platforms
You can place Google advertisements on your blog in the relevant niche and when visitors click on those advertisements, Google will pay you a certain percentage of the advertising dollars. This income can become significant when your blog gains traction and you have a steady flow of visitors.
- Affiliate programs
This is one of the most popular ways to make money with your blog. As mentioned earlier, when your blog becomes an authority in your chosen niche, you can recommend products and services to your visitors who will be inclined to listen to you and purchase the products that you recommend. Two of the most popular platforms are Clickbank (info products) and Amazon (physical products)
- Selling advertising space
Similar to Google AdSense, you will sell space on your blog to other product sellers in your niche. You can negotiate a fixed monthly price to place a banner advertisement on your blog in a strategic area. Different locations on your blog command different prices and you can set them based on these strategic locations and the number of visitors your blogs get per month.
These are the 3 main monetization platforms to make money that your blog should be focused on. There are more but using only this 3, a good blog can make 4-5 figures/month and easily into 6-figures per year income stream.
Now, can you see the power of blogging? The next step is that you will need a step by step system that shows you what you must do to build a successful blog. Over the shoulder video training is another way to ensure a hands-on learning experience.
You will need updated training that has no room for guessing or random work and should be easy enough for you to follow and learn it quickly. This training must be well structured, systematic and effective to ensure that you will be able to achieve success in building a money-making blog.
Blogging as a second stream of income is one of the best-underrated income avenues that many people are either unaware of or have overlooked. I hope you can see the value of this and can seriously consider this great income stream that can make you passive income form years to come. Don’t let another day passes you by.
To Your Success,
